Congressional bet joins Liberal Party

CITY councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, a congressional candidate, joined Tuesday the Liberal Party (LP) during an oath for the party’s new members at the Bacolod Business Inn Hotel.

Batapa-Sigue is an independent congressional candidate, but she decided to join the LP after undergoing a one-day orientation for new party members.

Batapa-Sigue said that LP in Bacolod is a strong and respectable party headed by Lawyer Anday Hagad.

“The LP offers us not only new leaders but a new way of looking at People power. The People Power in EDSA allowed us to regain our self-worth as Filipinos. Bacolod deserves more and deserves the best,” she added.

Hagad in the meantime lauded the joining of Batapa-Sigue in the LP, claiming that they believe in her capability.

Hagad said “Right now, the policy of the LP is not to nominate official candidates in the local level. The membership of Batapa-Sigue is not a guarantee that the LP will nominate her as congressional candidate in the City of Bacolod.”

Hagad, however, said if the LP leadership will decide later to nominate an official candidate for the congressional post, their core group will endorse Batapa-Sigue to be the official candidate of LP for the lone congressional set in the city. (Merlinda A. Pedrosa)
