ARTS span across classes and kinds of people in our community and those include the exceptional abilities of children with special needs.
The “ Artwork ni Toto kag ni Inday”, pertains to the artwork carved by some children and youngsters with special needs who are schooled at the Special Education (SPED) Center in Bacolod City in line with the Kids from Heaven program made possible by the Rotary Club of Bacolod – East (RCBE).
Former Bacolod City councilor Sonya Verdeflor, past district secretary of Rotary International District 3850 and past president of RCBE with past presidents Elsie Jolingan, Rafael Golez, Carla Cañet, Franklin Fuentebella, and Rotarian Joemarie Gochuico with club secretary Karen Fabruada engaged in the turnover of the artworks completed by some youngsters at SPED and likewise the distribution of art materials and school supplies for their own use.
This undertaking is a yearly activity of RCBE which was commenced by PP Mike Aguilar when he first served as club president nine years ago and was carried on by succeeding club leaders.
“We call this activity as Kids from Heaven project that provides these children and youngsters the chance to express themselves through the field of arts. Those kids and youngsters who endure austism and other development disorders and impairments find joy in scrawling art pens and colors in art papers and formed their art pieces. They have discerned their inner selves in their artworks. Such endeavor is a recreation and at the same time, a learning experience to them,” PP Sonya said.
RCBE president Marinnette Torrejon said RCBE is doing this wholesome project purposely to extend the needed help and care for this sector.
