Aguelo, Darap KO foes

ADONES Aguelo and Justine Darap both walked away with a knockout win in the double-header “Battle of the Ring Gladiators III - Double Championships” on Oct. 16, 2019 at the Calbayog City Sports Center in Calbayog City.

In a battle of veterans, Aguelo knocked out former World Boxing Council (WBC) International Silver super featherweight champion Eden Sonsona.

Aguelo stopped Sonsona in the 2:39 mark of the fourth.

The 31-year-old Aguelo won the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) lightweight title and improved to 33-20-2 with 23 knockouts. Sonsona suffered his fifth straight defeat and dropped to 36-11-2 with 13 knockouts.

Darap, on the other hand, destroyed gatekeeper Roebert Awitin in four rounds to win the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Asia-Pacific super flyweight strap.

The 21-year-old Darap landed a perfectly-timed counter left hook to the body that sent Awitin down on the ground.

Darap is now 8-1 with five knockouts, while Awitin fell to 11-28-2 with nine knockouts.

In the undercard, Aussie Brad Morgan (7-0, 6 KOs) knocked out Elmer Colve (7-45-3, 3 KOs), Carleans Rivas (8-6-4) beat Floryvic Montero (5-8, 3 KOs) by split decision and Luis Borje (4-1-1, 1 KO) won by unanimous decision over Jonathan Ricablanca (8-53-2, 1 KO). EKA
