City Engineer’s Office told to conduct study on island in shopping area

BACOLOD City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said on Thursday, October 17, that they are still waiting for the report of the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) on its study of an island along Narra Avenue Extension and Tindalo Avenue at a shopping area in Bacolod City.

Familiaran said the CEO was tasked to conduct a study of the island in the said areas after the City Council earlier approved a resolution requesting the CEO through the office of the city mayor to consider the removal of the said island.

The resolution, which was approved on October 9, was authored by Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairperson of the City Council committee on transportation.

Familiaran said the resolution is intended for the CEO to conduct a study to consider the removal of the island in said area.

“It’s for them to study and not to remove it immediately. For me personally, I’m not in favor to remove the trees in said areas and I’m not for the removal of the island. We will listen to the sentiments of the majority,” he said.

He added they will wait for the recommendation of the CEO.

Ramos earlier said that the increasing number of vehicles cause traffic congestion in the streets of Bacolod City, and traditional and creative solutions have been instituted to improve the over-all traffic condition in the city.

He said the island along Narra Avenue Extension and Tindalo Avenue seems to have outdated its original purpose and these spaces may be used to maximize road use.

Some netizens also aired their sentiments on social media, opposing the removal of the island in the said area.
