PRO-Davao vows to adhere to new PNP chief’s call

AS LIEUTENANT General Archie Francisco Gamboa as the Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao vowed to adhere to his call of intensifying their internal cleansing campaign amid the controversies that the organization is facing.

PRO-Davao spokesperson Police Major Jason Baria said that they will continue with their counterintelligence and background check for their personnel as part of the directive of Gamboa.

Gamboa, who is the Deputy Chief for Administration, took over the helm of the PNP after General Oscar Albayalde announced that he has opted to apply for a non-duty status (NDS), which is similar to terminal leave in private sector companies, starting October 14 amid allegations that he protected and benefited from ninja cops.

Ninja cops refer to police officers who recycle and sell illegal drugs that were confiscated during legitimate operations.

PRO-Davao has been undertaking several measures against errant policemen to prevent them from being involved in any criminal activities such as illegal drug trade. Earlier, they said that there are no reported ninja cops here in the region but they are monitoring several policemen who are involved in illegal drugs.

Baria also said Albayalde's decision is an act of professionalism while there is an ongoing investigation against him.
