Capitol to spend P6.6M for Suroy-Suroy

THE Cebu Provincial Government has allocated P6.6 million for the staging of the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo “Southern Heritage Trail” this coming Nov. 15 to 17, 2019.

For the three-day activity, this is how the P6.6 million will be allocated: P300,000 will be given as assistance to each of the 22 participating towns to help in their preparation.

Even the municipality of Moalboal is participating in the event despite earlier statements from Mayor Paz Rozgoni that they had no plans to participate.

Among the expenses expected to be incurred during the event will be for food and the other needs of the local and foreign participants.

The activity is expected to earn only P4 million from the payments of the participants.

But Maria Lester Ybañez, Provincial Tourism head, said though they will earn less than what they have allocated on the activity, their aim is to help increase promotion for the tourism industry of Cebu and its towns and cities.

“We can’t say that we are losing money because first of all, we are just starting.

“Second, this is merely an introductory rate and is an investment for the marketing strategy. We are not after the income of the Province, but of the LGUs (local government units).

“It’s a win-win situation,” Ybañez said in Cebuano.

The Province is expecting 300 local and foreign tourists to participate in the three-day activity.

Even local government units in the provinces of Negros Oriental, Palawan, and Maasin City in Southern Leyte are sending delegations that will participate in the event. (from ANV of Superbalita Cebu/JKV)
