Smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga

SOME P600,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes were seized by security forces in Zamboanga City, official said Saturday, October 19.

Colonel Antonio John Divinagracia, Joint Task Force Zamboanga commander, said the smuggled cigarettes were seized around 9 p.m. Thursday in Baliwasan Village, west of this city.

He said the troops were conducting checkpoint when they intercepted a van loaded with 20 master cases of smuggled cigarettes.

Divinagracia said the driver of the van, Puntukan Gulam, and his companion, Parkalid Sapapan, failed to show documents to justify the legality of the shipment of cigarettes.

He said the confiscated cigarettes were turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
