Riding-in-tandem kills town official, injures son in Leyte

MOTORCYCLE-RIDING gunmen shot dead a municipal official and injured his 18-year-old son in Albuera, Leyte Friday, October 18.

Police said that unknown assailants attacked Zenon Teofilo Granada, 51, officer of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro) and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), and Vincent James Granada, student, both residents of Barangay Poblacion in Albuera town.

The shooting happened around 6:40 a.m. Friday on H. Barte Street in Barangay Poblacion.

In an initial investigation, police said the victims were on board their service vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux, and were about to leave their residence when two motorcycle-riding gunmen appeared and shot them.

The father sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body, resulting in his untimely death. His son sustained a gunshot wound in his stomach and was rushed to a hospital for medical attention.

The gunmen immediately fled onboard a motorcycle.

Albuera police are conducting a hot pursuit operation and follow-up investigation to identify and arrest the assailants. (SunStar Philippines)
