THE Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons shrugged off a sluggish start and dominated the last three periods to defang the Southwestern University-Phinma Baby Cobras, 74-61 in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) high school basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Sunday, October 20, 2019.

After trailing in the first, CEC surged ahead in the second to take a 41-33 lead at halftime. Then, Paul Apolonio, Allen Gler and Winston Bingil all found their bearings in the third, combining to score for 13 of their 17 points in that stretch to extend their lead to 58-44.

The fourth canto was an all-CEC show even with the Dragons’ second-stringers manning the show.

Wingman Bingil canned four three-pointers on his way to scoring 22 points on top of five rebounds and two steals. Peter Rosillo also chipped in 12 markers to help CEC keep its hopes of making it to the Final Four alive with their record now standing at 4-4.

SWU-Phinma on the other hand, dropped to 2-5. John Dave Aznar led the Baby Cobras in scoring with 14 points while Al James Calizar had 12. Dezeo Villanueva was held in check all game long as he managed just 11 markers. The Baby Cobras also played without ace big man Charles Lipatog who was nursing an injured hand.
