THE University of Cebu Webmasters completed an elimination round sweep of the three-time defending champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers with an 83-66 rout in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Sunday, October 20.
UC took complete control of the game with a searing 15-2 run that bridged the third and fourth periods to build a 21-point lead. And although UV trimmed the deficit down to 10, the Webmasters turned to Darrell Shane Menina who hit one big shot after another to secure the win for UC.
UC now has a 5-3 record while UV got pulled down to 6-3 as the race for spots in the Final Four heats up.
Menina ended up with 26 points and five assists while Luigi Gabisan added 14. John Jabello chipped in 12 while Tosh Sesay had an impressive double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds along with four assists and three blocks.
UC was up by just six, 52-46, but turned their game up another notch behind the nifty play of Gabisan, Jabello and Menina whose layup gave the Webmasters a 69-48 lead with 6:51 left in the game.
However, the Webmasters slowed down and UV quickly took advantage with a 14-3 run that pulled them to within 10, 62-72, time down to 2:56.
But that was as close as UV would get as Menina canned a lay-up while Gabisan made a three-pointer to secure the victory.
Jancork Cabahug led UV with 19 points.
