THE Cebu City Government is only waiting for the fire site in Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City to be cleared before it distributes the housing materials for the 50 affected families.

On Saturday dawn, Oct. 19, 2019, a fire hit Sambag 1 that burned 32 houses, leaving around 50 families homeless. A 14-year-old girl also died in the fire.

The City Fire Department received the alarm at 2:35 a.m. Saturday. The fire was declared under control at 4:59 a.m. and fire out at 8:50 a.m.

Based on the investigation of the fire department, the fire started at the house of Diano Flores and was caused by an unattended aquarium.

The families are temporarily staying at the barangay gym.

The City will also provide them meals for three days while the cash assistance will be given after a resolution covering it is approved by the City Council, Ibones said.

The owners of destroyed houses will be given P20,000 each while the renters will get P10,000 each.

Most of the affected individuals have been renting in the area.

The City will also provide a P10,000 burial assistance to the family of the 14-year-old girl. (JJL)
