LEAGUE leader Holy Cross College of Sasa (HCCS) Spartans stretched its winning streak to three after breezing past Brokenshire College without a sweat Sunday, October 20, in the resumption of the 2019 Collegiate Sponsors League (CSL) Escandor Cup at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
The HCCS Spartans currently totes a clean 3-0, win-loss record in the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned cagefest.
SBP-Davao operations head Ronel Leuterio, in a Facebook interview with SunStar Davao Monday, October 21, said: "Forfeit ko yung game in favor of Holy Cross of Sasa, mali yung uniform ng Brokenshire. Wala daw silang dark (uniform) hindi pa daw gawa. Inexcusable kasi July pa kami nag-uusap."
HCCS's other victims were Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Bulldogs (88-83) and Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights (86-77).
The Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors, meanwhile, scored a twin kill over the weekend. The Sailors first sank DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP) Mariners, 79-68, Sunday after beating the Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders, 72-67, Saturday.
The Crusaders, however, took their first win after three outings by rolling past Mats College of Technology, 94-68.
The Sailors, along with Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings and University of Mindanao (UM) Main Wildcats, all have 2-0 card. JMC crushed Ateneo, 126-56, Saturday while UM routed San Pedro College (SPC), 71-59 Friday to grab their second straight wins.
CorJesu College (CJC) of Digos, for its part, entered the winning column via a 79-68 victory over St. John Paul II College of Davao.
The Asian International School of Aeronautics and Technology (Aisat), however, recovered from its first game loss to Addu (73-121) by demolishing UM PeƱaplata, 76-68, while Mats outlasted SPC, 82-70, to also improve to a 1-1 mark in the cagefest, which is presented by SBP regional director Glenn Escandor, as city eliminations for the upcoming Philippine Collegiate Champions League Mindanao finals.
