NOTHING represents the beautiful season of autumn like the pumpkin. While we may not have the crisp weather and warm-hued foliage here in Cebu, we can still enjoy the season through food. If we can’t have the feel of autumn, maybe a taste of it will have to do for now!

Here are five pumpkin-based dishes that one can do at home in the spirit of autumn:

Pumpkin Pie

A thanksgiving staple, the pumpkin pie is a dessert pie with a custard filling made with pumpkin and seasoned with spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. You can buy the pre-made pie crust from the supermarket, unless you want to make the pie crust yourself.

Pumpkin Soup

If you have a food processor, you can save a huge amount of time by pureeing the pumpkin there. Cream isn’t exactly necessary, but if you do prefer your soup on the creamier side, it’ll do the trick. Don’t forget the slices of toast on the side!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Sure, you can get one from Starbucks, but why not unleash your inner barista and whip up your own version? It’s pretty simple if you break down the ingredients: espresso, steamed milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and of course, pumpkin pie spice. Top it with whipped cream for a sweet finish.

Pumpkin Fries

As a healthier alternative to the classic potato, pumpkin makes for great fries. You can slice them thinly like regular fries, thicker for wedges or you can do chips. Instead of frying, pop them in the oven and bake them to achieve the crisp texture without the grease.

Pumpkin Curry

Satisfy your cravings for Indian food with the flavorful pumpkin curry. Mix in chickpeas and other vegetables, like carrots and broccoli, to make the curry a little more festive. You can also add chicken if you prefer to still have meat in your curry.
