THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) lauded the sanitary landfill of Cagayan de Oro after it was hailed as “Best and Well Operated” landfill by a local government unit (LGU) during the 2019 Environment Summit.

In a city hall press briefer, other LGUs were encouraged to visit the city’s sanitary landfill in Barangay Pagalungan.

It can be recalled that the open dumpsite in Zayas, Carmen was closed last April 2016, after the new sanitary landfill was opened in the upland village.

“Consequences of neglecting our environment could be irreversible,” City Mayor Oscar Moreno said.

Moreno has explained the importance of proper solid waste management in the development of the city.
