A SURGEON at Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) was arrested by authorities in a drug bust Tuesday dawn, October 22, along Suazo Street, Barangay 28-C, Davao City.

Based on the report of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the suspect was identified as Dr. John Perrett Olivar Herrera, 33.

Herrera is included in the Directorate for Intelligence (DI) Drug Watchlist personality and considered as a high-value target. He was nabbed by Sta. Ana Police Station (PS1) personnel led by Police Major Michael Uyanguren at 3:05 a.m. on October 22 during an entrapment operation.

An estimated P10,000 worth of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) was confiscated from his possession.

Pressed if they have likewise monitored other medical professionals who might also be involved in illegal drug activities, DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Nolan Tagsip said that it is still being investigated.

“We are still waiting for the investigation of PS1 if naa pa ba laing names nga mo-surface (if there are other names that will surface),” Tagsip said.

In the initial investigation, the suspect’s customers are mostly member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and people he met in social media particularly through Grindr App.

According to the same report, DCPO will continuously conduct operations and surveillances to apprehend personalities who are involved in illegal drugs.
