Iloilo orders 90-day ban on swine, pork products from Luzon

THE Iloilo Provincial Government has imposed a 90-day ban on the entry of swine and pork products from Luzon amid the African Swine Fever (ASF) scare.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. issued Executive Order (EO) 159-A, enforcing a temporary ban on swine, pork, pork products and by-products from all areas in Luzon, including its island provinces for 90 days.

The ban also applies to other countries or localities in the Philippines declared by the Department of Agriculture (DA) as positive of ASF.

The executive order amended EO 159, which was issued by the governor on September 19, blocking swine and pork products from Rizal and Bulacan provinces only.

However, the DA has confirmed the spread of ASF to other parts of Luzon, namely, Quezon City and the provinces of Cavite, Nueva Ecija, and Pangasinan.

“The continuing spread of ASF in Luzon necessitates the broadening of the temporary ban on swine, pork products and by-products, to include the whole of Luzon, including its island provinces,” Defensor said.

The governor also ordered strict veterinary quarantine procedures and safety measures against pork products.

Sea ports and the Iloilo International Airport are placed under quarantine check. (PR)
