Anti-obstruction ordinance passed in Arayat town

IN AN aim to put more teeth on the law, the local government of Arayat town has passed a local ordinance prohibiting any form of obstruction in public places.

The council passed Municipal Ordinance No. 11 Series of 2019 or the Anti-Obstruction Ordinance which sets penalties to any person, group or corporation who will block in any form roads or sidewalks.

Under the said ordinance, any signs, boxes, merchandise, equipment, vehicles, stands, fences, gate openings over sidewalks, wood piles, garbage or other things of any nature or description for purposes of display or storage or any other purpose placed in public places will be confiscated and owners will be penalized.

Likewise, any form of exclusive occupation or illegal possession of public alleys, sidewalks or roads, such as for parking spaces or veranda, is strictly prohibited.

A monetary fine of P500 will be collected from the offender for the first offense, P1,000 for the second offense, and P2,000 and imprisonment of one month for the third and succeeding offense will be implemented by the local government.

Mayor Emmanuel Alejandrino said the ordinance will finally address the problem of illegal parking and obstructions in the town, and bring back the roads and sidewalks to motorists and the people.

He added that it is also in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte and the Department of Interior and Local Government to sustain the road clearing operations in the town.
