City Council vows careful 2020 budget deliberation

CAGAYAN de Oro City Vice Mayor Rainier Joaquin Uy vowed to scrutinize the P7.5-billion budget proposed by Mayor Oscar Moreno for 2020.

Uy said the budget deliberation will likely start on the second week of November.

He said they are working on finishing other proposals and resolutions to avoid backlog in 2020.

Councilor Edna Dahino, chair of the committee on finance, said she has yet to receive the official copy of the budget proposal.

Dahino also assured that the budget will be thoroughly discussed to determine if it should be approved or not.

"Sa executive tanan, pwede nila isulti sa amo but kana studiohan pa na, if makaya sa syudad. It doesn't mean mao nana siya, ang importante dapat makaya na," she said.

Dahino said she will also check if the targeted collection promised by the executive department last year was reached.

In 2019, the City Council approved the P6.3-billion budget, from Mayor Moreno's origin proposed P6.5-billion budget.

For 2020, Moreno proposed a P7.5 -illion budget, with new item added, a P500-million assistance for the Cagayan de Oro Water District.
