Chik finds chink in class 2005’s armor

Michael Chik sent the 2000-Core Pacific to the finals of Division B as he hit a pressure-packed mid-range jumper to beat the 2005-Bizol, 54-52, in their do-or-die game in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (Shaabaa) Cebu Landmasters Cup at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball court on Wednesday night, Oct. 23, 2019.

With the game tied at 52-all and Batch 2000 holding possession, guard Dave Ting drove left before passing the ball off to Chik at the right wing. Chik hesitated for a moment to get his defender off kilter before rising up and making the game-winning jumper with 3.9 seconds remaining.

Batch 2005 then turned the ball over on their last possession to hand 2000 the win and the ticket to the finals where they will be taking on

Batch 2004.

Ting led 2000 with a near triple-double performance of 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists along with three steals. Serg Go Bui added 15 points and nine rebounds.

In Division C, the 2013-iPak/Roble Shipping moved on to the finals after outlasting the 2011-Chioson Development Corp. in overtime, 64-60.

Alphonsus Doyon led 2013 with 18 points and 11 rebounds while court general Arc Gabriel Araw-Araw had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Xavier Catan held down the middle with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
