Cops claim lawmaker harasses police detail of wounded teacher

THE police detail of the teacher who was shot inside a school cried harassment against Representative France Castro of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Party-list.

Valencia City Police Chief Colonel Surki Sereñas said Castro, who visited the hospital on Wednesday, October 23, insisted on going inside the hospital room of Zhydee Cabeñelez, a teacher at Dalit Elementary School in Sitio Dalit, Barangay Lumbayao, Valencia.

The police detail said Castro's companions took pictures and videos of the police officers who were in the vicinity.

Colonel Roel Lamiing, Bukidnon provincial police chief, said Zhydee and his husband requested the police detail for their security and privacy.

"The ACT Party-list after the shootout immediately claimed that Cabañeles couple are their members. That teacher Zhaydee was attacked for being critical and actively campaigning for salary wage increase of teachers but Mrs. Zhaydee Cabañeles and her husband denied membership. She is not aware that ACT Party-list has a chapter in Valencia City. She only saw the name of ACT at Ballots during election," the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao said in a statement.

Cabañeles told police that in 2016, she attended the ACT orientation but was unaware that it already constitute membership. She also denied participation in any of the ACT campaigns or rallies, Cabañeles was quoted as saying.

Cabañeles was seriously wounded when four armed men attacked her and her husband inside a classroom on October 15.

Police said the masked men only identified as "taga-bukid."
