THE Task Force Davao (TFD) seized around P376,000 worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) at Lasang checkpoint Thursday dawn, October 24. Some of the drugs were hidden inside a marker pen.
Based on the TFD report, few days after more than a million worth of shabu was seized at Sirawan checkpoint, another drug couriers were caught and arrested at Lasang checkpoint on October 24.
The apprehension was made possible through the joint efforts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The combined forces apprehended Jay ConolSasil, 47, married, and resident Agdao, Davao City, and Jay Mark Gonesto Torejas, 36, single and resident of Dumanlas, Buhangin District, Davao City.
Seized from Sasil was one sachet of shabu weighing more or less 13 grams and with an estimated street value of P195,000, while confiscated from Torejas was also a sachet of shabu weighing 12.05 grams and estimated to be worth around P180,750.
The suspects were traveling from Mati, Davao Oriental to Davao City on board a Starex van driven by Sasil when they were inspected at the Light Vehicle Inspection Area in Lasang.
The TFD report stated that during the inspection, the Cafgu Active Auxiliaries on duty noticed an empty marker pen on the dashboard of the vehicle.
The inspector then requested assistance from the PNP team leader on duty to conduct a thorough inspection on the vehicle and the suspects, resulting in the interception of two sachets of shabu hidden on the vehicle's dashboard.
The recovered items were properly turned over to Police Station 6 Bunawan for proper disposition and filing of cases.
"TF Davao will not allow drug pushers to enter Davao City unchecked... TFD conducted last week a workshop for the sharing of best practices in drug apprehension and has developed Tactics Techniques and Procedures to counter their (illegal drugs suspects) modus in illegal drugs," the TFD said.
