7,000 Lapu-Lapu residents to get work

AROUND 7,000 Lapu-Lapu City residents are expected to get jobs through the Labor department’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay Sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) program.

Rep. Paz Radaza said she has set aside P20 million from her congressional funds for the Tupad program.

According to the city’s lone district lawmaker, one jobless member per family has the opportunity to work under the program, which is an initiative of the Department of Labor and Employment.

Indigent persons can avail themselves of the Tupad program regardless of their age as long as they can still work.

Radaza assured that the program would not be politicized, and it would not be limited to her indigent supporters.

The beneficiaries would work by batch for 10 days, and the first batch started working on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019. The program will end on Dec. 12.

To get into the Tupad program, Radaza asked unemployed residents to visit the offices of their barangay captains and her congressional office in Barangay Basak. They must submit documents that identify themselves, including a certification that they are indigents.

A Tupad beneficiary is expected to receive P386 for an eight-hour work every day for a maximum of 10 days. The program is estimated to benefit some 7,000 residents. In 2020, another set of Tupad beneficiaries will be chosen, said Radaza.

The beneficiaries will help the Department of the Interior and Local Government in cleaning and clearing the roads, according to Radaza. The Tupad beneficiaries’ activities, she said, will be properly documented.

Radaza also announced that a resident, 15-30 years old, can work in her office and in barangay offices through the Government Internship Program (GIP) for two months.

The legislator said she has 129 GIP beneficiaries in her office.

“They can earn as much as P21,000 for two months,” Radaza said. FROM GCM OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / KAL
