80 barangay dads told to monitor new tenants

ALL 80 Cebu City barangay captains were directed to monitor new tenants of spaces for rent within their villages.

Mayor Edgardo Labella said this is one of the measures of the City Government to prevent robbery incidents similar to what had happened at the J Centre Mall in Mandaue City on Saturday,

Oct. 19, 2019.

Most of the suspects came from provinces outside Cebu. They were renting apartments in Barangay Tayud in Liloan and near the mall in Mandaue City.

“In the wake of this misfortune, I am asking all barangay officials to increase vigilance and implement security measures. Additionally, I am asking you to mobilize your personnel, including the barangay tanods, to actively monitor new tenants occupying spaces for rent within your jurisdiction,” Labella said in a memorandum issued to the village chiefs on Wednesday,

Oct. 23.

He specifically asked them to check apartments, boarding houses, pension houses and rooms for rent.

“These new tenants should be closely monitored and identified to ensure that they are not lawless elements who may be plotting crimes in Cebu City,” the mayor said. JJL
