Government forces seize NPA lair in Ayungon town

TROOPS under 94th Infantry (Mandirigma) Battalion, Philippine Army (94IB) seized New People’s Army (NPA) lair at the boundary of Sitio Yamut and Sitio Talaptapan, Barangay Mabato, Ayungon, Negros Oriental at around 11:40 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2019.

The abandoned enemy lair can accommodate more or less 15 NPAs.

The government troopers discovered the lair after receiving reports from civilians regarding the presence of armed group in the barangay.

The troops immediately conducted security operations and was able to seize an NPA lair that was hurriedly vacated few hours prior to the troops arrival in the said area.

The troops conducted clearing operations and recovered the following items: one portable generator ; three rifle scopes; nine pieces of switches; five pieces detonator for anti-personnel landmine (IED); one medical kit; one handcuff; one pouch bag; eight t-shirt printed with NPA logo; one pair of rain boots and rain coat; one utility rope; two saw (for metal and steel); one axe; one hammer; two big rice pot with newly cooked rice; subversive documents with high intelligence value and other personal belongings.

The said enemy lair is located a kilometer away from the crime scene where the four police officers were brutally murdered by NPAs last July 18, 2019 at the said barangay.

Lieutenant Colonel Randy Pagunuran, commanding officer of 94IB, stated that “this clearly shows that the civilians do not like the presence of NPA terrorists in their area. They are now cooperating and doing their part in order to make the communities peaceful and free from NPA influence.”

"I urge the people of Ayungon to continue to report the presence of NPAs in their communities in order for us to prevent their extortion and other terroristic activities in the area,” Pagunuran added.
