Aboitiz group moves to cut energy, water consumption

THE Race to Reduce Challenge of the Aboitiz Company kicked off last Monday as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility in helping the environment.

The Race to Reduce Challenge is a contest among Aboitiz corporate centers to reduce the consumption of energy, water and paper. The bigger aim of the campaign is to reduce carbon emissions within the group.

The contest was simultaneously launched last Monday in all Aboitiz group of companies.

Erramon Aboitiz, president and chief executive officer of the Aboitiz Group of Companies said the program is one of the company’s ways of addressing the current problem on climate change.

Aboitiz said the Race to Reduce Challenge is timely especially now that the country is experiencing an El Niño year, when rainfall is below normal.

“The balance of people, profit and planet is important for a robust business,” he said.

As part of the mechanics of the contest, the corporate will submit the entry form, copy of the electric and water bill as well as paper consumption for the month to the Aboitiz Equity Venture Sustainability team.

Rewards are given to those corporate centers that garner the highest percentage reduction in energy, water and paper consumption.

The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi) has expressed its full support of the program.

Ruth Rowena Alensonorin of Rafi said the foundation is committed to the program.

“Reduction on the consumption of these resources will be enforced in Rafi not only to address environmental concerns but to become role models to other institutions as well,” she said.
