ANOTHER international triathlon event is set to hit Cebu as the City of Naga hosts the ASTC Asian Cup next year. The event is expected to draw 500 to 1,000 local and foreign triathletes.

“We won the bidding. Actually it’s the Trap (Triathlon Association of the Philippines) who made the bidding for the event. It’s going to be held in the City of Naga in October next year,” Tonyson Luther Lee of TSE Live Inc. told SunStar Cebu.

TSE Live Inc. was the group behind the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT)-Cebu Leg, which was held in the City of Naga for two consecutive years from 2018 to 2019.

Lee, together with actor and triathlete Paul Jake Castillo, has met City of Naga Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong for the upcoming triathlon event next year.

“The local government unit of City of Naga knows about the event and they’re excited to be the host,” he said.

The ASTC Asian Cup is done in different parts of Asia. The Philippines hosted the Asian Cup in Subic Bay in April this year.

Lee admitted this will be a challenge for them since it is a bigger race compared to NAGT. TSE Live Inc. will have a year to prepare for this.

“We’re going to talk and coordinate with Trap for our preparation,” he said, referring to the national governing body for the sport of triathlon.

The tentative date for the ASTC Triathlon Cup in the City of Naga is Oct. 13, 2020.

Cebu has also the home of the Ironman 70.3 Philippines for the past eight years. The half-Ironman race covers the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Talisay and Cebu. (RSC)
