PamCham mulls creation of counterpart committee on disaster response

THE Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham) is considering the creation of a counterpart committee on disaster response and mitigation in a bid to coordinate private sector efforts in disaster response with the provincial government.

The report of the Pampanga Information Office said that PamCham president Rene Romero plans on calling the committee the PamCham Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (PDRRMC). The said committee will complement and work closely with the provincial disaster agency.

“I committed to the good governor, who chairs the council, that PamCham will create a counterpart committee, also to be called PDRRMC or PamCham Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee,” he said.

Romero said that the committee is aimed at assisting the provincial government in times of disaster and fulfill their common goal of making Pampanga disaster resilient.

This was recently disclosed during the first tri-chamber general membership meeting and induction of new members held on Thursday at the LausGroup Event Centre here.

According to Romero, the partnership with the provincial government is an initiative of the chamber to make sure that all members will be properly equipped with appropriate knowledge and skills in times of disaster.

Governor Dennis Pineda has assured the chamber that all necessary trainings and capacity building will be given and facilitated by the provincial government through the Pampanga PDRRMC headed by Angelina Blanco.

Romero also disclosed during the membership meeting that the Philippine Air force Multi-sector Governance Council (PAF- MSGC) are now registered as their new members which is also their way of helping the provincial government in their mutual campaign against communism.

“Major General Paredes is here today and I assured him that PamCham will be actively involved in the implementation of Executive Order No. 70 to end local communism armed conflict in the country,” Romero added.
