Baguio police chief asks youth to stop hazing

BAGUIO City’s police director plead to stop hazing in all institutions.

Police Colonel Allen Rae Co, director of the Baguio City Police Office, pleaded to the youth to shun any form of hazing in the police and military institutions as well as educational centers and groups.

“It has already been said, there is no training value of hazing. It does not to add to intelligence, tactics capabilities,” Co said.

The Baguio police chief said hazing destroys the body and as well as the dreams, alluding to the tragic death of the Philippine Military cadet fourth class Darwin Dormitorio, which has exposed hazing at Asia’s premier military institute.

Co said the sensational case has opened the discussion as well as the plea to stop the maltreatment practices.

“This is the right time to stop hazing,” Co added.

Co called on community leaders and commanders to be responsible of the people under their jurisdiction and relayed the pressure of handling the biggest case of the year.

“Admittedly, PMA as an institution took some hits, we believe that this not the work of the institution but individuals and relayed the heavy feeling of handling the case as colleagues are from the institute,” he added.

Co said the fact that PMA has admitted the impasse and is in the thick of instituting changes is a good sign.

“For me, that is the best indicator or acceptance na merong mali. How can you institute measures if you do not accept there is something is wrong,” Co adds.

In the history of the PMA, it is arguably the first time the BCPO was allowed to conduct an investigation inside the military camp.

“We are very appreciative of the fact that they cooperated and allowed us to conduct our investigation. I did not feel hesitation on their part for assistance in fact, and some of the finding done was with the tactical help of officers,” the Baguio top cop said.

Co thinks the truth was found in the PMA probe saying “I think we did find the truth, in all honesty, exept for peripherals like the theory that the act was done as a result of the father calling the tactical officer or the theory of the missing combat boots.”
