DAVAO City will start constructing its second permanent evacuation center anytime soon.

Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head Alfredo Baloran said the city will start constructing another District Evacuation Center in the second district.

"Basin by this year or first month next year (Either this year or first month of next year)," Baloran said.

The official said the center will serve as a temporary shelter for people who are forced to leave their homes in times of disasters such as flooding and fire.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, during the State of the City Address (Soca) on October 14, said the city is currently on its planning stage for the project.

The mayor said it will be constructed in Barangay Mahayag in Bunawan District.

Baloran said this is part of the city's plan to construct evacuation centers per district.

In the first district, the location has yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, he said the evacuation center in the third district, located in Los Amigos in Tugbok District, is undergoing rehabilitation. The center costs P26 million.

Baloran said it is expected to be open before the year ends, adding that the evacuation center will also be managed by the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO).

Baloran said the evacuation center is equipped with facilities such as comfort rooms, kitchen, and a couple's room. It can accommodate more than 100 families.
