JAYMAR Magdaleno and Ruffa Sorongon dominated the half-marathon race of the Gaisano CountryMall 26th Anniversary Run on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019, at the mall’s parking area in Banilad, .
Magdaleno breasted the tape in 1 hour, 16 minutes and 9 seconds to win the men’s 21-kilometer title over veteran runner Michael Largo, who came in second with a time of 1:17:07.
Pro boxer Ian Refuela crossed the finish line in 1:19:08, good for third place.
Sorongon, a native of Sultan Kudarat, was well ahead in the women’s side as she finished the course in 1:34:22. The closest pursuer was Kay Cundangan who came four minutes after. Princess Jive Borromeo finished third in 1:41:13.
Florendo Lapiz also had a dashing finish in the 15K race. He clocked 51:56 to win the men’s title over Jerome Casinillo and Azlan Pagay, who timed in 53:53 and 55:35, respectively. Cherry Andrin topped the women’s 15K in 1:04:31 followed by Grace Tejones in 1:08:17 and Wilma Lugay in 1:19:13.
In the 10K race, Jeboy Magbologtong and Evamie Villarin came out as the fastest runners in their divisions. The former won the men’s side in 37:13, while Villarin topped the women’s division in 43:38.
Ryan King Salinay clocked in 38:05 and Peter Canumay timed in at 40:00 to finish as runners-up to Magbologtong, while Charisse Encarnacion and Angel Estillore rounded up the women’s top 3 after clocking in 48:11.10 and 48:11.97, respectively.
Meanwhile, Rainmarch Gonzaga (17:50) won the men’s 3K, John Reynald Desamparado (17:59) finished second and Darwin Lukay-Lukay (18:31) finished third. Asia Paraasi (20:56) ruled the women’s side, with Marielle Estreba (22:02) nabbing second place and Giselle Ochia (22:36) taking third place.
This year’s run was for the benefit of The Dream Big Project, a Cebu-based youth volunteer organization that helps in areas of education, health, environment, and peace and development. (RSC)
