SunStar Cebu routs Brigada, tops NBAC anew

SUNSTAR Cebu won back-to-back titles in the Newsmen Basketball Association of Cebu (Nbac) after a one-sided 79-60 win over Brigada in the finals of the 2019 second conference last Oct. 27, 2019 at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Gym.

SunStar dominated the game from start to finish despite a strong second half push by Brigada.

SunStar started strong and quickly took a 19-11 lead after a quarter of action. It was in the second quarter that SunStar totally outgunned Brigada with a 31-point quarter, ending up with a 28-point lead, 50-22, at halftime.

Brigada came out swinging in the third and trimmed down the lead to 24 points, 67-43.

Brigada also outscored SunStar in the fourth but it wasn’t enough to erase the double-digit deficit.

Robert Aniñon led SunStar with 21 points and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Richie Clavecillas added 16, while Philip Cerojano chipped in 12.

Johnry Pamat, on the other hand, was Brigada’s top scorer with 13 markers, while Johnley Bayking and Warren Apostol added 12 each.

Meanwhile, DySS finished in third place after a convincing 81-67 victory over Manila Bulletin.

Gabriel Bonjoc and Kim Rosell led dySS’s charge with 20 points apiece. Aquiles Gesim contributed with 12, while Gregy Magdadaro added 11.

Fernando Bumaya exploded with 28 points in a losing effort by Manila Bulletin, while Niel Nadela added 19. (EKA)
