Cardinals shut down Navigators for 6th win

UNIVERSITY of Baguio Cardinals gave the Saint Louis University Navigators a reality check after a 40 point drubbing in men’s basketball of the ongoing Baguio - Benguet Educational Athletic League season 33.

In a highly anticipated rematch of last year's finals, the Cardinals easily disposed the Navigators, 85 - 45, at the SLU Prince Bernhard gym Saturday afternoon, October 26, 2019, to stay unbeaten in six games.

The Cardinals started strong and easily posted a 12-2 advantage midway in the opening canto and never looked back as it handed the Navigators its first loss in six starts.

UB, known for its trapping full court defense limited SLU to only 18 points in the first 20 minutes of the ball game while finishing the first half with 41 markers.

The lead ballooned to 30 in the third quarter, 48 - 18, with 7:15 remaining in the period on a 7 – 0 run capped by a short jumper from Claude Leyman Camit.

From then on, UB took care of the lead the rest of the ball game and extend their unbeaten record since last season to 15.

Vince Ahron Sibbaluca top billed for the Cardinals with a game high 22 points while Bheniedick Lozano and John Patrick Bianan added nine markers each as Camit chipped in eight.

Justin Paul Madriaga meanwhile topped SLU with nine points.

Meanwhile, season host Cordillera Career Development College Admirals tightened their grip for a final four appearance as they trounced Benguet State University Wildcats, 103 - 67.

Four Admirals scored in double digit led by Jamil Remiendo with 16 points as John Russel Tuazon and Francis Ramos had 15 and 14 apiece while Michael Roy Cornelio chipped in 10 and improve their record to 4 - 2.

The Wildcats remained winless in six starts, was led by John Stephen Galvan who had 17 with Jasper Miguel adding 12 points. (Roderick Osis)
