Yoga for moms

I AM aware that I have been disturbed by some of life's surprises lately. It shows through my choices -- may it be in words, actions, or even in my small decisions. I always want to maintain a positive outlook to keep my sanity as a first-time mother.

My friends in Davao Mommy Bloggers also share the sentiment, so we thought of organizing a small yoga event, inviting less than 10 moms for a free session.

"In this crazy world of motherhood, I want moms to be reminded of the importance of self care through yoga," said Mary Jane Dionela, one of the mom bloggers.

Our teacher, Vanessa "Essa" QuiƱanola, was very accommodating and patient to our strengths and weaknesses. Her objective was clear.

"Yoga is a holistic practice as it balances everything emotionally and mentally. Through it, we are mindful of our disposition in life," she said.

This is true for first-time mom Dorz Gallego, who appreciated the yoga's impact even for just an hour.

"I was able to relax a bit and mingle with other moms," said Dorz, who is also a full-time mom to 5-month-old Bran.

Our event was supported by generous friends who gave special tokens -- Gypsy Mermaid for the soaps for moms' beauty and skincare, LactoMom for the essential oils, and Davao AnMari Handmades for the yoga mat bag.

As we capped off our event, Green Box by Yolks Flower Cafe and Cupcakery served us some healthy salad wraps.

The yoga event taught us that in order to take care of our families' health and wellness, we must also love our body and mind.
