Police hurt in road accident

A POLICE officer was hurt in a road crash in Abra while several individuals were also involved in a series of accidents in the different provinces of the Cordillera region.

In Pidigan town, Abra, Patrolman Ilorde Dicang figured in a minor accident with a tricycle driven by Romulo Laureta on October 25, 2019. Dicang is assigned at the San Quintin Municipal Police Station (MPS), Abra Provincial Police Office (APPO).

The report did not indicate what transpired. Laureta was brought to Abra Provincial Hospital, Bangued, for treatment.

In Bangued, a motorcycle driven by Alejandro Tolentino Cabarubias, 38 years old, collided with another motorcycle driven by Jerry Martinez Cabigas, 54.

Cabarubias, a farmer from Brgy. Angad, Bangued, had a back rider identified as Elpidio Anical Bandin Jr., 27 years old, also from Angad. Cabigas is from Patucannay, Tayum.

Investigation showed that Cabarubias was traversing the road towards Angad from Agtangao while Cabigas was heading the opposite direction when their vehicles collided.

Both drivers sustained multiple injuries on the different parts of their bodies and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

In Baguio City, Korean Mi Sun Cho, 50 and a student at APTS, was hurt after the van he was driving developed a mechanical problem causing the vehicle to fall to the ground and slightly damage a house in Barangay Salud Mitra, Private Road.

The victim refused to be brought to the hospital while the case is under investigation.

In Apayao province, a motorcycle owned and driven by Dante Julian Miguel, 61, with a female back rider collided with another motorcycle owned and driven by Jacinto Bautista Juan, 68.

Miguel was traveling from San Carlos towards Barangay Imelda while Juan was traveling in the opposite direction.

Upon reaching a sharp curve, Juan encroached into the lane of Miguel, causing the two motorcycles to collide.

All sustained multiple abrasions on the victims who were all rushed to Sta. Marcela District Hospital for medical treatment.

The motorcycles, which were damaged, were brought to Sta. Marcela Municipal Police Station for verification and safekeeping pending investigation of the case.

Also in Flora, Mike Ola Pena, 25, farmer, and a resident of Barangay Maluyugan was hacked by Bobot Butay, a resident of Sto. Nino, Cagayan but temporarily residing at Malayugan, Flora, Apayao.

Investigation disclosed that prior to the incident, the victim and his brother Albet went out for some drinks near the Sta. Maria-Balluyan River.

At around 7:45 p.m., both went to the house of Felix Tejada located in Barangay Balluyan, and had another drinking session.

During the course of their drinking, a heated argument ensued regarding a P100 debt that the suspect owed the victim.

After a minute, the suspect suddenly stood up and brought out his bolo and hacked the victim on the left side of the victim's head that prompted his brother and his cousin Randel Pena to go after the suspect who had fled.

Responding personnel of Flora MPS recovered one bolo as allegedly used by the suspect, while the victim was brought to Flora District Hospital for treatment. A manhunt operation is still ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspect. (Jonathan Llanes)
