FIRE survivors in Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City are getting free water from the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

MCWD installed a communal faucet near the affected area to help families in rebuilding their houses and their lives after a fire left over 400 people homeless last week.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, MCWD provides free water for 30 days to survivors of big fires within its service area so the survivors can use it for drinking, cooking and washing.

The displaced families of Sambag 1 also received water through MCWD’s water truck at the evacuation center. MCWD, formerly Osmeña Waterworks System until it was renamed in 1975, has been the major source of water in putting out fires in Metro Cebu since 1912.

The free water for fire survivors and the water used to put out fires are part of MCWD’s Non-Revenue Water, which is at 24 percent as of the second quarter of 2019.

Last year, MCWD provided free water for hundreds of fire survivors in Barangays Sawang Calero, Pasil, Ermita, Hipodromo and Kamputhaw, all in Cebu City. (PR)
