15 hurt as school buildings collapse in Tulunan

AROUND 15 students and teachers of Daig Elementary School in Tulunan, North Cotabato were injured after three of their four buildings collapsed when the ground shook Tuesday morning, October 29, 2019.

Another tectonic earthquake, with magnitude of 6.6 and a depth of only seven kilometers, struck at 9:04 a.m. Tuesday about 25 kilometers southeast of Tulunan. It was the second major quake in the area in a span of two weeks.

In a social media post, a teacher at Daig Elementary School who goes by the name Tsai Via (Chy) called for financial assistance from the local government unit for two injured children, who were rushed to a hospital.

Other teachers and students sustained only minor injuries.

"More or less there are 15 children and teachers who are wounded (mostly minor injuries) including the two who are rushed here at Centeno Hospital. They will be refered to Amas hospital for X-ray and CT scan. Please include us in your prayers," she wrote.

She posted her message on Facebook, together with photos of some of two of the injured, because she had difficulty making a call or sending a text message in the aftermath of the quake.

In another post, she said three of the four buildings at Daig Elementary School collapsed.

Most of the students have been sent home and were safe. But the teacher called for emergency responders to inspect their buildings because they were not certain whether all the children have been accounted for. (MVI/SunStar Philippines from Superbalita Cagayan de Oro)
