Bishop to lead burial mass for Pulupandan evictee

BACOLOD Bishop Vicente Navarra will lead the burial mass on Saturday at the Sacred Heart Church in Barangay Sum-ag for the Pulupandan evictee who died last Sunday.

Ronie Agustin, 49, died of stroke while striving to acquire a relocation site along with some 31 other evictees from Barangay Berdon and Zone 3 of the said town.

The incident occurred while they were having a dialogue with Governor Isidro Zayco at the Governor’s Office.

Trinidad Agustin said that her husband, who was a former barangay councilman in Pulupandan, was too tired that day. They walked from the Bacolod Cathedral going to the Provincial Capitol in protest of the alleged harassment and injustice in Pulupandan.

Agustin was then rushed to Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital by Father Mao Buenafe of the Social Action Center along with three other priests for immediate medical attention but was later transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Regional Hospital and where he died.

Zayco, meanwhile, provided the down payment for Agustin’s hospital admission.

Agustin’s widow is very thankful for the support given to their family by the Bishop and their fellow evictees.

Agustin will be buried at the Sacred Heart Memorial Park in Barangay Sum-ag after the 8 a.m. mass. (Teresa Ellera-Dulla)
