DTI starts monitoring Christmas lights

THE Department of Trade and Industry Davao City Field Office (DTI-Davao City) has begun monitoring Christmas lights in retail establishments in the city, one month ahead of Christmas.

Christopher Dalhog, DTI-Davao City information officer-designate for consumer protection, said they started going around stores in the city on October 28. Their monitoring will end on Wednesday, October 30.

He said based on their monitoring, stores in the city were selling standards-compliant Christmas lights.

"Ang Christmas light is ginamonitor na namo og sugod. Gahapon nagsugod name og suroy sa mga establishments. So far, tanan nabisitahan namo compliant man (We started to monitor Christmas lights and visited establishments. So far, all establishments that we have visited were compliant)," said Dalhog.

He said they have also provided the retail establishments with a list of approved brands of Christmas lights as well as the marks to look for in selling them.

"Ang allowed lang nato, kung imported nga Christmas lights, ang ICC (Import Commodity Clearance) sticker nga naay date 2013 pataas, so 2013 to 2018. Mao lang na ang allowed nga pwede mabaligya. (For imported Christmas lights, what we allowed to be sold are those who have ICC stickers which dates from 2013 to 2018)" he said.

He added that the difference of the latest ICC sticker is the presence of the QR (Quick Response) code.

He added that for locally manufactured Christmas lights, the certification mark to look for is the Philippine Standard (PS) Quality Mark.

"Halos tanan nga naga display og Christmas lights whether naa sila diri sa Uyanguren, Bajada, mga malls, or any establishments nga makitaan namo nga naga baligya og Christmas lights, among ginaduolan ug ginainspect. (We inspect almost all of the Christmas lights being displayed in stores in Uyanguren, Bajada, the malls, or any establishments)," he said.

He said they have also advised the store owners to refer to the list of approved brands in case they are offered with other Christmas lights brands apart from what they have displayed.

Dalhog said they will conduct random monitoring of the product in the succeeding weeks.
