Velez: Horrors

DIGONG believes Mindanao is solid behind him. He often thinks God is stupid. The quake just shook all of that.

The quake was felt from north in Cagayan de Oro down to Davao. It united Mindanao better than Digong.

We are still confirming if Digong will give up disaster response to God for six months to address the panic of Mindanao people.

Perhaps this is nature's way of tweaking Davao's motto "Stay Strong Davao" into "Sway Strong Davao."

Maybe this is God's way of reminding us that before Christmas, there's Halloween. Maybe it's a way to frighten us to stop going to malls that are now commercializing Christmas.

Speaking of Halloween, I notice we Pinoys laugh at horror films. It's because we know what real horror is. Commuting in the city is a horror. Failing a subject or a project is to expect a tongue lashing from the teacher or boss. No water at the CR when you're late is a real horror.

Perhaps Pinoys should rewrite some classic horror films like this:

The mad rush to catch a broken MRT ride symbolizing corruption and neglect: Train Naubusan.

Closing our eyes from social media circus in order to survive this crisis: Bird Box.

Censorship, trolls and threats keeping truth from the people: A Quiet Place.

A political dynasty always going back to the past to tweak it just to make them the hero of the future: Terminator Part Whatever, it's getting annoying.

A fisherfolk eaten by a Chinese sea monster which also destroys our reefs and land forces us to unite and fight: The Host.

A Lumad School in The Woods shows how a scientist named Hermogenes destroys an idyllic school out of his illusions of destroying the ancestral land.

VP Leni is challenged to solve crime and drugs in six months. 28 Weeks Later, her biggest problem is zombie followers who want to destroy her for no apparent reason.

There are two ways a horror movie ends, the hero survives or the evil and mysterious defeats the good.

My favorite horror film is Alien because the hero, Ripley, survives by fighting and not losing her wits. Let's be like Ripley. Let's survive the horrors.
