Police to probe 'bottle throwing' incident in Bacolod bar

BACOLOD City Police Office (BCPO) Director Henry Biñas ordered the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) to investigate the alleged "bottle throwing" incident in a bar along Lacson Street in Bacolod City.

Biñas said Tuesday, October 29, 2019, he received information that there was an alleged "bottle throwing" incident along Lacson Street. The incident was captured in a video that was posted on social media on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

"The alleged incident was not reported in our police station, so we will investigate this to determine if there were minors involved when it happened because there was also a report that it happened previously and the video was just re-uploaded," he said.

He added he was unsure if the incident happened during the highlights of the 40th MassKara Festival.

The 41-second video posted by a certain Jhey Sein on Facebook with caption "Ramos 1st Botelya Festival 2019" showed that some people were screaming, hiding, and covering their heads with chairs after unidentified persons threw bottles in the air.

There were comments that some of their companions sustained minor injuries.

"We will investigate this to determine the owner of the bar and other involved parties for the possible filing of charges against them," Biñas said.

He said if the bar committed a violation, they will report it to the City Government for the possible cancellation of its business permit.

"It's the responsibility of the bar to ensure the safety of their customers and to maintain the peace and order inside the bar," he added.

Biñas said even the station commander of Police Station 2 did not receive report of said incident.

Biñas earlier said the just concluded 40th MassKara Festival was generally peaceful for the entire 21 days, with zero casualty and no major incidents reported in various areas of Bacolod.

BCPO deployed a total of 3,000 police personnel and force multipliers to ensure the peace and order.
