Bottled water banned from Boracay cemeteries

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) in Boracay Island has discouraged residents from bringing bottled water in cemeteries.

Police Captain Dexter Briggido, deputy chief of Malay police, said the ban is part of the municipality's no plastic policy campaign.

"The local government of Malay has instructed the police not to allow bottled mineral water inside cemeteries. Our police personnel in the field will be asking residents to surrender their bottled mineral water," Briggido said.

He said the campaign will also help local government in ensuring minimal garbage problem, as people flock to cemeteries especially on October 31 to November 2 to visit their departed loved ones.

"Residents could instead bring water containers," said Briggido.

This is the first time for the PNP to implement the no plastic policy in Boracay this year.

Briggido said they will allow vendors to sell bottled mineral water outside cemeteries as long as the bottles are not brought inside. (SunStar Philippines)
