ALL is set for the solemn and peaceful observation of All Saints' Day in San Simon town.

This was after the local government and police implemented necessary preparatory measures to ensure that residents can visit their departed loved ones during the long weekend.

Mayor Abundio Punsalan Jr. said he ordered the cleaning of the two public cemeteries in the town -- the Catholic and municipal cemeteries located in Barangay San Juan -- ahead of the expected influx of people starting October 31 until November 3.

He said the local government also provided free white paint for the tombs in the cemeteries to add to the cleanliness and provide decency to departed Simonians.

Street lights were also installed in and around the cemeteries to allow Simonians to pay respects to the late relatives until the evening.

"We have prepared everything that is needed. All our kabalens need to do is visit the graveyards of their relatives and light candles while saying their prayers," Punsalan said.

Meanwhile, San Simon's chief of police, Major Freddie Herry, said at least 10 policemen and force multipliers from barangays are deployed at the cemeteries to provide security to Simonians.

Road marshals will also be deployed along the major thoroughfares to assist motorists and commuters, he added.

Herry, meanwhile, urged the public to avoid bringing prohibited items, including alcoholic drinks, sharp objects and other contrabands, as they will be confiscated by authorities.

"To avoid hassle and commotion, let us avoid bringing the prohibited items. This is to ensure the security of fellow Simonians and maintain the solemnity of the event," he said.
