Duno readies for big break

ROMERO Duno is in tremendous shape and ready to end unbeaten Ryan Garcia’s hype this weekend in Las Vegas.

“I am 100 percent ready for Garcia. I am just four pounds above the weight limit and I will have no problem shedding the extra pounds. I had an excellent training camp and have never felt this good. I will get Ryan Garcia with everything I have. This is my biggest fight. My biggest break. I will not put it to waste. I know what Garcia is made of. He is strong. But I have my own game plan. As long as I follow it I know I will take home the win,” said Duno.

The 25-year-old Duno locks horns with Garcia for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) NABO lightweight title and the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver lightweight belt on Nov. 3 (PHL Time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Duno has been chasing Garcia for some time now. He finally was given the opportunity after a stoppage win over Ivan Delgado on Sept. 14, 2019 in Carson.

Duno had good training camp training under the watchful eye of former world champion and current California-based trainer Rodel Mayol. He also tapped the services of renowned strength and conditioning coach Angel “Memo” Heredia to turn him into fighting shape.

“Everyone in his camp was impressed about his hard work. Battles are won in the training camp. So as long as Duno sticks with the plan and gives his everything, then he will be the next big name at 135. I am confident about the kid. This is his biggest break. He should grab it,” said Sanman Promotions head Dexter Tan.

The 21-year-old Garcia is one of Golden Boy Promotions’ hottest prospects. He is currently rated No. 4 in the World Boxing Association (WBA) and No. 8 in the WBC. He is coming off a second round stoppage of Jose Lopez last March 30, 2019.

Duno is 21-1 with 16 knockouts, while Garcia is 18-0 with 15 knockouts.

The Duno vs. Garcia bout is the co-main event of the boxing show headlined by the WBO light heavyweight fight between Sergey Kovalev and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. (EKA)
