Lapu cemeteries ready for visitors: Chan, Baja

POLICE are securing cemeteries in Lapu-Lapu City during All Saints Day and All Souls Day.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan and police chief Col. Clarito Baja checked out private and public cemeteries in Lapu-Lapu City on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

The city has five cemeteries--two in Barangay Gun-ob, one in Barangay Pajo, one in Barangay Mactan and one in Olango Island.

Chan said he has ordered the City’s Clean and Green team led by Alejandro Remorosa to make the cemeteries presentable this weekend.

Chan said he plans to put up a help desk with medical and police teams in it.

He has placed personnel of the city’s solid waste management on standby after he heard reports that the Humay-Humay Public Cemetery in Barangay Pajo has been flooded.

Chan said the City has a submersible pump ready in case heavy rains flood the cemeteries.

He appealed to the public to follow security advice during their cemetery visits, such as not bringing any form of bladed weapon and intoxicating drinks.

Police chief Baja said that aside from his personnel, civilian volunteers will be on the streets to help secure the cemeteries and their premises.

Local police will be on stand by at the city’s terminals, ports, at the Mactan Cebu International Airport and other areas where large crowds are expected to gather, Baja said.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CCPO) is also on heightened alert for the holidays.

Police Lt. Col.Virgilio Bayon-on, CPPO spokesperson, said police will be highly visible in the bigger towns and cities of Cebu.

More police will be sent out to Talisay City on as it has the most number of cemeteries in Cebu Province. (GCM and BBT of SuperBalita Cebu, JKV)
