Weygaan-Allan: Thankfulness

EVERY morning, we thank God for life and for the day. Precisely because we assume we breathe and live every day. Sometimes we miss the reality that life may be taken away today. Many do not realize that anytime anyone can faint, rushed to the hospital, die and brought in a coffin.

Undas is the time to remember those who went ahead of us. I remember my Dad and Mon so dearly and the uncles and aunties. I remember those young nephews I had who died in battle in Mindanao, brought home to the Cordillera in a box. I remember my cousin who we have to bury in the Libingan ng mga Bayani, a true hero who served our country but when he retired he continued a battle to be healthy because of a recurring disease brought about when he was wounded in battle in Mindanao, decades before he retired. Life been snuffed but may they live in peace and may the Lord be merciful to those they left behind.

The weekend was significant as by Sunday I find myself at the emergency room of the BGHMC. How I got there is another story but what I experienced there is a story. I called Dr. Divina Hernandez of my suspected mild stroke and she suggested I go to Notre Dame. I told her of my symptoms and how I handled that the night before until everything went normal and I slept, woke up, went to church, went to a breakfast buffet and was calling her from there. She then said "please go to BGH because we have a protocol that will help." When husband and I got there, I asked for Neuro and they told me station seven.

I was met, made to lie down on a bed and the resident doctors Dr. Alwyn John Jamandre and Dr. Pasiwat talked to me and said "I am now starting some procedure for you. So, flashlight came on, then some basic test on my eye function, finger dexterity, stick your tongue out, "look at my nose and with your fingers show me where the action is left or right," "touch my nose and touch your nose" and later on that "what is the level of feeling this side, this one and this one". And then finally, asked me what happened, my name, my history etc. while someone was recoding all of this. Then Dr Kumagaya came, introduced himself and then did the same testing. He was done and then the doctors talked and Dr Jamandre told me they wanted to do an MRI and to admit me. I did not agree to being admitted but MRI would be fine. He said we start with the MRI so after a few minutes the MRI schedule was made available and both of them pushed and wheeled me to the where the MRI was conducted.

I was made to remove my necklace and bra before they transferred me to the It was real cold, impersonal and noisy in that chamber and I just thank the technician for providing an additional blanket and an ear set that was supposed to shut off the sound, which it did not. And after about 30 minutes I was out and wheeled back to the emergency room, where Doc Jamandre and Pasiwat ministered to me, explained my situation and recommended admission which I rejected even after Dr. Ina explained. And my response was "Monday, I have work to do in the city and on Tuesday to Wednesday, I have to be in Manila for the Food Security Summit 2019 as a representative of Mayor Benjie Magalong has equally important schedule." And so, husband and I left the hospital and went for an anniversary buffet at Podium before we went home. Every day if for thankfulness, every moment is a breath of thanks for the goodness of the Lord.
