Sungduan: World end polio

ROTARIANS from the Rotary International District 3790 Cluster-1C joined forces in the global campaign to end polio. As part of their polio eradication initiative on the observance of World Polio Day on October 24, they conducted a World End Polio awareness motorcade, which started at Baguio Convention Center going to Session Road, Magsaysay Avenue, Bonifacio Street, Rotunda-Magsaysay, Harrison Road, and ended at Baguio Convention Center. Clad with their red shirt printed with the End Polio Now campaign the Rotarians from RC Baguio, RC Baguio North, RC Metro Baguio, RC Baguio South, RC Downtown Session, RC Baguio Summer Capital, RC Baguio Sunrise, and RC La Trinidad helped educate and further raise community awareness on the said disease which again emerged in the country. Latest report says that the Department of Health confirmed the third case of polio in country and this was recorded in Maguindanao. With this incident, the Rotary Clubs from RI District 3790 Cluster-1C take a more active role in the campaign to totally eradicate polio in the country by ensuring that children in the community are protected from the said disease. The Rotary Cluster headed by Assistant Governor Karl Gabaen is set to conduct a Polio Vaccination activity for children this coming month of November at People's Park, Malcom Square Baguio City. RC Metro Baguio President Ofelia Villanueva and Club Secretary Audrey Sungduan said all Rotarians are enjoined to conduct different health promotional activities in support of the RI's goal of eradicating polio around the globe. For more than 30 years now Rotary has been taking significant efforts toward ending polio worldwide. It was the first organization to conduct a polio immunization project in the country in September 1979.
