DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio cautioned the public against passing through two major bridges in Davao City -- Bankerohan and Bolton bridges -- after cracks were found after the series of earthquakes that rocked the city.

In a press conference Thursday, October 31, Duterte-Carpio reminded the public about the capacity of the bridges, adding that concerned agencies are conducting inspection and assessment to ensure the integrity of these bridges.

"Ang Bankerohan natin is ongoing na reassessment ng DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) and City Engineer's Office because duna silay mga nakita na cracks (since they noticed some cracks)," she said.

She said the Bolton Bridge may be dangerous if trucks passing by exceed its capacity, thus she advised the public to avoid it.

"Ang atoang Bolton Bridge is limited only to 20 tons, beyond 20 tons, dili na ka-kaya ang bridge because duna siyay damage sa iyahang diaphragm wall below sa bridge naa sa downstream side (The Bolton Bridge is only limited to 20 tons, it can no longer carry more than the allowed weight because its diaphragm wall below the bridge is damaged)," she added.

The DPWH, in its public advisory issued on October 30, said all northbound trucks weighing 20 tons are advised to take alternate routes until further notice.

"This is to inform the motoring public that effective immediately, only light vehicles will be allowed to pass Bolton Bridge II (Davao City-Northbound) as we await the results of an ongoing structural soundness assessment," it said.
