Peace council under Labella to prioritize drug war

AFTER being appointed as chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) of Central Visayas, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has announced that he will prioritize the fight against illegal drugs.

Labella said President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered him to intensify the fight against criminality, especially the campaign against illegal drugs.

“You know what is his directive? The directive is very simple--intensify the relentless fight against criminality, especially the fight against illegal drugs,” said Labella.

To be an effective regional chairman, Labella said he will be going to different provinces, cities and islands in Region 7 to see the real situation and concerns there.

Aside from police authorities, he also wants to meet the governors and mayors in Region 7 to see what programs and help he can provide to them.

“How can I be an effective regional chairman if I cannot see the real situation right there, at the forefront,” he said.

However, Labella said he will start with Cebu City.

“As a mayor, I am given a task, let us take care of our city,” said Labella.

He said Cebu City is a “very safe place” for law-abiding citizens and warned criminals to stay out.

The mayor acknowledged that his appointment as RPOC 7 chairman is another “tough task” to perform, yet he is willing to serve and do what he is expected to do.

Labella also heads the League of Cities of the Philippines. He was elected to the post on July 19, 2019. JJL
