I cannot fathom the wisdom of Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama. He already resigned as chairman of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) and yet he keeps on saying that he will be “visible” in the preparations for the Sinulog 2020 because he is still a member of the Sinulog Board of Trustees and in his capacity as the vice mayor and the “father of the City Council.” So what’s the connection of being the vice mayor and the Sinulog? He is inconsistent.
By the way, was the resignation of lawyer Joy Pesquera as chairperson of the executive committee of the SFI coincidental with the resignation of Rama or did they plan it? Pesquera, who was once romantically linked to Rama, also tendered her resignation the day after the latter resigned. Nagkasabot ba silang duha o sulagma lamang? Did she do it out of sympathy?
Now going back to Mike. He said that he has his own plans for the Sinulog activities next year. He told reporters that he “has plans since then even if I had not been active for three years, even if I was only a member of the board. Now, that I am part of the City Council, I have plans because I care.”
Pag-sure Mike, uy! What are your plans and what will you intend to do? You will organize your own version of Sinulog? You have already resigned, so what you will do is to abide by the decision of the board being a collegial body. Be a team player. By saying that you have your own plans, will you undertake it on your own without the concurrence of the majority? After all, I was right when I said that Mike is a kind of person who wants to grab all the credits because of his hidden agenda and ulterior motive.
You have already resigned, so there is no need for you to poke your nose and impose your whims and caprices on the group as far as preparations for activities for the Sinulog next year are concerned. You can only contribute a little being an ordinary member of the board of trustees. Ayaw nag-salida. In the sideline na lang ka.
But do you know the reason Mike resigned as chairman of the SFI? Because the Cebu City Sinulog Governing Board (CCSGB) created by Mayor Edgardo Labella has clipped his powers. It was not true that he was not properly informed of the decision of the meeting between the board and the SFI. If he failed to attend that meeting, the SFI was well represented by its president, Pericles “Ricky” Dakay. So why did he complain that he was not properly informed when Dakay could communicated with SFI members what they discussed with the governing board?
Was it also true that one of the reasons Mike was sourgraping was because he could no longer sign checks in behalf of the SFI and is prohibited to solicit funds for the activities? Millions of pesos of Sinulog funds had not been properly accounted for in the previous Sinulog. That’s the reason Labella created the governing board to set up policies and for the purpose of check and balance and to safeguard the financial support the City extended to the foundation in the amount of P35 million. That’s taxpayers’ money, so it is just right and proper for Labella to safeguard that huge amount.
Mike is the type of person who cannot accept being in the backseat and be dictated by another person. He wants to always be in the forefront and in the limelight. His resignation was a result of his sourgraping, showing his negative attitude because he could no longer impose his own whims and caprices. Now, he vowed to be “visible” in the preparations for the Sinulog next year because he “cares.” What “care” you are talking about, Mr. Rama? If you care, why did you resign? You should have “held on” against all adversities. Pahuway na Mike uy.
