Sands Gateway: First lifestyle arcade in the north

ONCE a popular recreational center in Danao City (the premier gateway to Camotes Island), it is now a two-storey lifestyle arcade (the first in North Cebu) which houses an air-conditioned ticketing office and terminal, money changer booth, cafes, retail shops, pioneering pastry shop and restaurants, and the first resto bar with function rooms.

Sands Gateway aims to provide a lifestyle destination for people in the north and for passengers going to and from Camotes. It’s also a convenient and cozy bus-stop for people to do some shopping, dining or relaxing.

Before Sands Gateway opened its doors to the public, Danao Port had no proper terminal. Passengers going to Camotes had to bear the heat of the sun or brave the rain while lining up to buy their ferry boat tickets, then stay anywhere while waiting for their trip.

Now, with the 150-square-meter terminal, passengers can buy their tickets and wait for their trip comfortably. Aside from the lounging area and ticketing offices, the Danao City Tourism Office also has an information desk inside.

Adjacent to the terminal is where the cafés, restaurants, and retail shops are. Some of the brands present: Goldilocks, Penshoppe, Hukad, Orange Brutus, Café Sands, Carmen’s famous MLB Lechon, Sizzlers, Chicken Deli, Dunkin Donut, 4K’s Seaside Restaurant (from Iloilo), Jonie’s, and a 24 hour-open Jollibee.

On the second floor of the arcade is where Fuel, the first resto bar of its kind in Danao, is tucked, as well as the NBI Satellite Office, iPlay Center for kids, E-Bingo, and a function room that is also open for private events. Sands Gateway has a lift that connects the second floor to the terminal on the ground floor, especially made for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

Outside the arcade is a lush garden with miniature replicas of the world’s famous landmarks like the Taj Mahal, Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa and Big Ben. Here, one can enjoy some fresh air and sea breeze.

Though Sands Gateway is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, some of its tenants, especially restaurants, have no fixed times as these follow the scheduled trips of the day.
